Info
kurhikuaeri is an intimate gathering created to honor Día de Muertos through ritual, memory, music, and light.
Conceived as a temporal threshold rather than a conventional event, the experience intertwined space, landscape, and collective energy to open a different kind of time — a time dedicated to remembrance. Held in Tzintzuntzan, a territory deeply rooted in Purépecha history, the encounter draws its name from Curicaueri (Kurhikuaeri), the Purépecha god of the sun, fire, and war — a guardian presence that symbolically sustains the celebration and accompanies the return of those who are no longer physically present.
Beyond audiovisual documentation, rastro was responsible for the overall production design of the event. The spatial concept was developed as an immersive ceremonial environment: from the layout of the gathering to the design of the DJ booth, conceived as a Día de Muertos altar, integrating symbolic elements into the musical nucleus of the experience. The project also included the design of the camping area, where individual tents were conceived as part of the visual and spatial narrative rather than purely functional structures. Additionally, a dedicated chilling lounge area was designed as a contrasting atmosphere within the event — a contemplative zone that balanced the intensity of the ritual and musical components.
rastro led the video direction, editing, and documentation, focusing on firelight, shadow, and collective presence. The resulting visual archive preserves not only the structure of the event, but its emotional density — translating a fleeting ritual into a lasting memory container.
