Info
Shanghai Café is a global event platform that connects diverse creative scenes through music, art, and immersive spatial design. Each edition brings together both emerging and seasoned dancers within carefully curated environments that prioritize atmosphere, aesthetic coherence, and community integration.
The events expanded across multiple cities — Morelia, Mexico City, Monterrey, and Miami — transforming distinct venues into temporary cultural ecosystems shaped by sound, lighting, and artistic intervention.
Rastro led the full production and event design across these editions, including the complete audiovisual coverage and the curatorial direction of each experience.

Opening Party — Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia (FICM)
For its Morelia edition, Shanghai Café took the form of the official opening celebration of the Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia.
Hosted inside a traditional colonial house in the historic center of Morelia, the event transformed domestic architecture into a temporary audiovisual ecosystem.
Laser systems traced architectural lines across walls and corridors, activating arches, patios, and textures with precise beams and volumetric haze. Lighting design shifted the house from a historical residence into an immersive night environment.
The result was a layered spatial narrative: cinema audiences, artists, and guests moved through rooms where heritage architecture met contemporary visual language. Music functioned as the connective force, while light sculpted transitions between intimacy and collective intensity.

For its Mexico City edition, Shanghai Café took over Musak, unfolding across two distinct yet connected atmospheres within the venue.
The main room was conceived as the central pulse of the night — a fully immersive dance environment shaped by light, rhythm, and graphic intervention. Custom neon signage inspired by Chinese typography was designed and installed to reinforce the platform’s visual identity, embedding cultural references directly into the spatial language. A laser system was integrated to redraw the architecture in motion, cutting through haze and amplifying the kinetic energy of the dance floor.
The rooftop operated as a secondary sonic landscape. More open and elevated, it offered a contrasting yet cohesive atmosphere, with its own music programming and lighting design. Subtle washes and controlled fixtures shaped the perimeter, allowing the skyline and night air to become part of the experience.
Together, both spaces functioned as a dual ecosystem — interior intensity and open-air release — unified through aesthetic coherence, spatial design, and Shanghai Café’s signature fusion of music and immersive environment.

The Monterrey edition marked a larger-scale expansion of Shanghai Café — a higher-capacity gathering that amplified the platform’s immersive identity within the industrial energy of downtown MTY. Hosted at Venue 867, the event embraced a more expansive production design, adapting the venue into a fully articulated spatial experience.
Rastro led the complete production design of the night, shaping the atmosphere through scenography, lighting systems, and visual identity integration.
Laser installations activated the volume of the space, cutting through haze and emphasizing architectural depth. At the center of the main room, a giant Chinese coin structure was designed and installed as the DJ booth backdrop — functioning as both symbolic anchor and visual focal point. The piece translated cultural reference into large-scale scenography, reinforcing Shanghai Café’s graphic universe within the physical environment.
In addition to the spatial intervention, a full photographic and video documentation was developed. Disposable cameras were distributed among guests, encouraging them to capture the night from an unfiltered, personal perspective. This gesture introduced an organic counterpoint to the high-production environment — blending curated visuals with raw, collective memory.

info
The Miami edition took place during the weekend of Formula 1.
Hosted at Paraíso Estéreo, the venue was reconfigured to embody the aesthetic language and atmosphere of Shanghai Café.
Light and haze were used to reshape depth and perception within the space, transforming the club environment into a cohesive sensory landscape. The goal was not to overwrite the venue’s character, but to reinterpret it — infusing it with Shanghai Café’s signature balance of graphic symbolism, rhythmic intensity, and atmospheric design.
