Info
Mexican artist Pablo Rubín inaugurated Octágono during the Festival Internacional de Cine de Morelia 2025. Conceived specifically for this context, the exhibition marked the first artistic activation within the transformation process of the Palacio Municipal into the new Centro de Cultura de Morelia — positioning the show as both a standalone body of work and a symbolic architectural beginning.
rastro designed and constructed the structural bases supporting the four large-scale paintings. The solution consisted of a continuous metal base built from the linear repetition of 2.54 cm PTR steel profiles, welded into a single low-profile structure. Each 400 × 280 cm piece was anchored from behind to a concealed metal plate and suspended 2 cm above the floor, creating the illusion of levitation — as if the works were floating, held by nothing. The intervention merges industrial precision with perceptual subtlety, allowing the support system to remain visually discreet while reinforcing the monumental presence of the paintings.
In addition to documentation, rastro was responsible for the photographic and videographic documentation of the project, covering not only the exhibition week but also the artist’s process in the weeks leading up to the opening. The visual record focused on spatial perception, material texture, and the evolving relationship between artwork and architecture — tracing the development of the pieces from studio preparation to final installation.
